Imperial Yeast was founded in 2014 with a desire to provide brewers of all scales with world class yeast and the best possible customer and technical support. Nicely spread out across the US, one can find Imperial Yeast in both Portland, Oregan and Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

Casey Helwig studied philosophy in school which led to many late night discussions with friends trying to solve the world's problems. Inevitably, there would be beer involved at these gatherings and it didn’t take long for her to fall in love with everything the craft beer industry had to offer. She has held positions from serving, bartending to brewery sales and for the past 6 years has filled the role of sales manager at Imperial Yeast.

Dr. Matt Winans earned his PhD in yeast systems biology From West Virginia University under Dr. Jennifer E.G. Gallagher. As an early career scientist, Winans was awarded several National Science Foundation fellowships including the East Asia and Pacific Summer Institute (EAPSI) fellowship, under which Dr. Hiroshi Kitagaki and Japanese Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS) facilitated yeast breeding research for sake brewing.

His most recent publication is a mini-review titled “Yeast Hybrids in Brewing” that is available for free online. Currently Matt leads the Research, Development, and Innovation Team for Imperial Yeast in Portland, Oregon.
